Sam Blanks
ABOUT SAM
Sam is a Central Coast artist who has completed a Bachelor of Natural History Illustration with Honours at University of Newcastle. Sam favours carbon dust, coloured pencil, digital illustration, pen and ink, scratchboard, clayboard with acrylic inks, and cyanotype.
Sam’s passion is nature but her obsession is paleontology and she also enjoys entomology and botany. Sam’s work has been shown locally and regionally, including Maitland Regional Art Gallery, Gosford Regional Art Gallery, Royal Easter Show, Royal Botanic Gardens and in exhibitions with local art societies and Wildlife and Botanical Artists, Inc.
She also sells her work at markets locally, the products available are original artworks, cyanotype artworks, cyanotype zipper pouches and bags, cards, gift tags, bookmarks, and wristlets.
Cyanotype is a photographic process that uses the sun for exposure. The strength of the blue is dependent on the strength of the UV light. As the process uses the sunlight to develop the image, each print is unique according to the time of day, and the weather. Real items (photograms) or full-size negatives are used to create their unique images. The sun can lighten the blue through out the day, but the blue will return over time in the dark. Cyanotypes on the pouches and bags are on 100% cotton calico and they are lined with poplin. Pouches use fleece interfacing to give them a soft feel and protect the contents inside.

A calendar can be found on my website, where they can find where I am each week to see my full range. My monthly markets are Valley Treasures Market at Niagara Park Shopping Centre (Second Saturday), Markets 2259 at Wyong Race Club (Second Sunday), and Long Jetty Markets (Last Saturday).
